# Cosmetic limits

> What results mean, and what clients must not claim.

Skan measures visible appearance in one photo. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose a condition.

Clients presenting results must:

* **Scores:** describe them as cosmetic appearance measurements, not a diagnosis, a health rating or a prediction.
* **Raw values:** not rank concerns, convert `progress` to a percentage, or compare different metrics on a shared scale. The provider's raw 0–100 values are not validated for that.
* **Match scores:** present `match_score` as a cosmetic fit estimate, not a treatment recommendation or a promise of results.
* **Skin type:** not infer it or any medical condition from a scan. `skin_type` is passed only when the person stated it.
* **Limitations:** keep each response's `limitations` text with the result it qualifies.

Results vary with lighting, angle, expression, makeup and image quality. Anyone with pain, swelling, a severe reaction or a changing mark should see a qualified clinician.

The service is for adults (18+).
